1. The Pilot Who Watched the Stars Disappear

In June 2002, a reservist serving in Afghanistan was outside with another pilot at about 4.30am. According to his later FBI interview, stars appeared to be getting blacked out over Bagram as something travelled from west to east.

He described an equilateral triangle, silent movement and no visible lights. He estimated its size at 500 feet and its speed at perhaps 150 knots. He also said he could not fully see its shape. The other pilot reportedly noticed it too.

Those details sit on page three of FBI interview D024. The interview took place in March 2024, roughly 22 years after the encounter. The document was released on 7 August 2026.

A 500-foot estimate is extraordinary. It is also an estimate made without a measured distance. Think of a hand held against the Moon: very different objects can occupy the same patch of your view. An object's apparent width does not, by itself, establish its physical size.

The file contains another story about lights observed during flights in 2023 and 2024. Those accounts should stay separate from the triangle over Bagram. A video discussed earlier in the interview records later lights, not the 2002 object.

The Bagram passage preserves the experience of an apparently enormous silhouette. To follow it further, we need to see what the FBI preserved from that conversation.

2. What Did the New FBI UFO Files Actually Release?

The 7 August 2026 government release included four interview records paired with digital illustrations of reported triangles. They cover encounters in 2002, 2011 and October 2023.

An FD-302 is the FBI's interview record. Think of it as a written account of a conversation, carrying what someone told the interviewing agents. The forms themselves state that they contain neither FBI recommendations nor conclusions.

The dates tell three different stories: when someone saw something, when agents recorded the account and when the public could read it.

Reported Encounter Interview What the Witness Described Released Material
Bagram, June 2002 March 2024 A huge dark triangle, no lights, silent movement D024 interview and D025 illustration
Location redacted, June or July 2011 April 2025 A dark triangle with three white lights and a low pulsing hum D028 interview and D029 illustration
Colorado Springs, October 2023 January 2026 A fleeting, translucent-looking triangle with a silver-blue trailing band D026 interview and D027 illustration sequence
Colorado Springs, October 2023 October 2025 A large triangle with red corner lights and a sudden apparent acceleration D030 interview and D031 illustration

The days of the Colorado encounters are redacted. We cannot establish that the two witnesses saw the same object on the same night.

These FBI UFO files expand the detail available for comparison. They are one part of the continuing release programme introduced in our May 2026 UFO files guide.

3. Three Corner Lights, Two Very Different Encounters

The 2011 and red-light Colorado accounts both describe lights at a triangle's corners, but their sound and movement differ.

A Low Hum Beneath the White Lights

In the 2011 interview record, D028, witnesses recalled a dark object moving north above a neighbourhood. Three white lights were recessed near its corners. A low hum made a pulsing sound.

The observation lasted about 10 to 15 seconds. An attempt to retrieve a phone came too late; the object passed beyond the trees. One witness estimated a length of 200 feet, a width of 100 feet and a height above the ground of about 800 feet.

The witnesses differed over whether the outline was equilateral, with equal sides, or isosceles, with two equal sides. Imagine viewing a triangular road sign from underneath and at an angle: perspective changes its apparent proportions.

The location is redacted. This is not another documented Colorado Springs sighting.

Red Lights Above Colorado Springs

The witness in D030 described a black triangle appearing from a dark, distorted-looking patch of sky in October 2023. A diffuse red light occupied each corner.

He recalled a steady initial movement, an abrupt acceleration and a sharp bank. He compared the apparent disturbance around it with the shimmering view down a hot road. He heard no sound.

The witness suggested a possible speed of Mach 1 or 2. That is his interpretation, not a speed established by radar in the released file. Likewise, the reported 90-degree movement describes a bank onto the object's side, not a measured right-angle change in its flight path.

When I compared the interviews, the sound descriptions stood out. The 2011 triangle hummed. Bagram and the Colorado accounts describe silence. A shared outline does not give every encounter the same behaviour.

Three lights make a recognisable pattern. The next Colorado account is stranger because it describes a shape whose edges were difficult to see at all.

4. The Four-Second Triangle That Looked Almost Transparent

At about 10.50pm on a clear October night in 2023, a Colorado Springs resident and his wife were sitting on their back porch. The witness told the FBI that something passed overhead from behind the house and travelled southwest.

In D026, he described a triangular silhouette surrounded by haze or distortion. It looked almost see-through, with ripples resembling the view of an object underwater. A silver-blue band appeared along its trailing edge. The witness also suggested that a dark grey or silver colour blending into the sky, combined with the surrounding distortion, could have created the translucent appearance.

He estimated a low altitude, perhaps 300 feet, and a size comparable to a large SUV based on that assumed height. Both figures depend on the same uncertain distance. Picture guessing a boat's size from a light across a dark lake: change the assumed distance and the inferred size changes too.

The observation lasted around four seconds. The witness said the object remained on a straight path while banking nearly upright, and made no sound. He had no time to take a photograph or video.

The accompanying five-page D027 illustration sequence represents the scene and the object's reported positions. Its changing positions are drawn panels, not consecutive camera frames.

The four-second encounter became an interview and a sequence of drawings. Following that chain shows where independent evidence would have to enter.

5. The Triangle Gap Connects the Sighting to the Evidence

The Triangle Gap is the difference between showing that a triangle was reported and showing what made it.

A witness sketch is a map of a recollection. A time-matched photograph or radar track is a separate record of the same event. Each can contribute something the other cannot.

The Triangle Gap follows a witness observation into an FBI interview and illustration, then shows the separate measurements needed to connect that account with an identified object.

For these four triangle encounters, the paired files supply interviews and illustrations. They do not supply a case-linked radar track or an original recording of the described triangle.

That distinction also protects an unusual report from being flattened into a generic UFO image. A silent outline blocking stars, three glowing points and a shape with a rippling edge are different observations to test.

It is an approach we also use when comparing well-documented UFO cases. The next recording shows why even a genuine video can leave the object itself difficult to recognise.

6. Watch the Actual FBI Triangle-Orbs Video

The government has also released a real recording labelled FBI-UAP-PR001, Triangle Orbs, 2021. It concerns a separate November 2021 event in the northeastern United States, rather than any of the four illustrated encounters above.

According to the official DVIDS record, a witness filmed the lights with a handheld iPhone 12 Pro at about 5am. The video was posted on 12 June 2026. The description attributes the account to the witness and states that the FBI assessed the individual as highly credible.

Witness-recorded video released through the government archive, 2 minutes 42 seconds. DVIDS marks the video as public domain. It shows lights during a separate 2021 encounter; it is not footage of the Bagram or Colorado triangles. Open the official video and description.

The official description says an initially bright source resolved into multiple lights, with camera movement introduced by handheld filming. The visible points give us something to examine, while the surrounding darkness limits what we can say about a connecting body.

Hold three small lights against a dark background and they can mark a triangle whether they share a structure or sit separately. A visible surface, movement between the points and independent distance measurements could distinguish those possibilities.

Here the recording and its accompanying witness description are complementary. Neither turns the drawn triangles from other dates into filmed aircraft. The distinction leads directly to the competing explanations.

7. What Could Explain Black Triangle UFO Sightings?

Black triangle UFO sightings invite several explanations, and each needs to account for the particular sighting's shape, movement and setting.

1. An Aircraft With an Unfamiliar Outline

The B-2 Spirit demonstrates that human aircraft can have extraordinary silhouettes. Its flying-wing form and reduced signatures were designed into a real bomber. The US Air Force fact sheet dates its public rollout to 1988 and first flight to 17 July 1989.

Think of recognising a familiar car from an unusual angle. At night, the features that normally identify an aircraft may disappear, leaving only a shape or a few lights.

Matching a UFO to a military aircraft still requires more than resemblance. Date, location, flight direction, lighting and a plausible flight record would strengthen an identification. A photograph of a B-2 cannot by itself identify the Bagram object.

This is an aircraft-design comparison, not a photograph connected to any of the FBI sightings. Official photograph. Public domain. The appearance of US Department of War visual information does not imply or constitute endorsement.

The proposed TR-3B identification also belongs in this discussion. The four interview records do not establish that programme or identify their objects as its aircraft. Our TR-3B and stealth technology investigation follows that claim separately.

2. Separate Lights Seen as One Shape

Three bright points can outline a triangle without revealing what lies between them. Picture three distant cyclists at night: the lamps are obvious long before the people or the space separating them becomes visible.

To examine that explanation, look for changes in the points' relative positions, a visible surface or stars consistently hidden behind a moving outline. These are different kinds of information. The Bagram witness's description of disappearing stars should therefore remain distinct from a report consisting only of lights.

Apparent motion also depends on the observer and camera. A moving camera can make a stationary point move across the frame. A dark background gives fewer landmarks for judging distance or direction.

These are possibilities to test against a particular record. They cannot retrospectively identify every object carrying the triangle label. The 2021 video gives us recorded lights to inspect; the illustrated cases preserve different descriptions.

3. An Object Whose Identity Remains Open

A witness may have observed a real object whose identity the available material cannot establish. The next task is to find evidence that separates a known aircraft, an unfamiliar human system and a more extraordinary possibility.

Think of hearing an engine behind a closed garage door. You may be certain you heard something while still lacking the information needed to name the vehicle. Confidence that an event occurred and confidence about its cause are separate judgements.

The more unusual reported features deserve specific tests. A measured acceleration would require positions, distance and timing. An apparent lack of sound needs the observer's distance and environmental conditions. A convincing shape needs information about viewing angle and illumination.

Alien technology is one proposed explanation, but these interviews do not supply the measurements needed to establish it. The open identity is a reason to investigate further. It cannot choose the answer in advance.

Across all three explanations, the task is the same: connect the distinctive account with evidence capable of identifying its cause. The older Belgian and Phoenix accounts let us ask whether a proposed explanation fits more than one sighting.

8. Why the Older Triangle Stories Keep Returning

The Belgian UFO wave and the Phoenix Lights give these new records a familiar backdrop. Each has its own witnesses, chronology and disputes. They deserve separate case histories before anyone tries to join them into a single explanation.

The files examined here offer concrete differences for that comparison. Bagram has no reported lights. The 2011 encounter has white lights and a hum. The two Colorado accounts describe different appearances, with their exact dates concealed.

For anyone asking what is a black triangle UFO?, the term names a reported appearance. It does not yet name a single kind of vehicle. Comparing accounts is like comparing footprints: similar shapes can invite a connection, but the trail between them still has to be established.

These black triangle UFOs remain compelling because their descriptions are unusually vivid. Their differences give future investigators something more demanding to explain than a repeated outline. Each description points towards particular measurements that could bring an object into focus.

9. What Would Bring the Silent Giants Into Focus?

NASA's 2023 independent UAP study identifies missing measurements, sensor calibration and contextual data as obstacles to investigation. Calibration is a check against a known reference, like checking a scale before weighing something unfamiliar.

For a triangle sighting, a precise time and location could connect a witness's account with another camera, flight record or radar observation. Two separated viewpoints could help constrain distance, like looking at the same object from opposite ends of a street.

An original recording also preserves more to examine than a screenshot or an illustration. Our UFO reporting guide explains how to preserve those details if you see something yourself.

For now, the first step is achievable. Read the interview beside its illustration and keep the witness's estimates attached to the witness. The released files let us recover details that retellings often lose.

There is no timetable in these interviews for identifying the objects. A case-linked recording or a newly available account could change the picture.

The black triangles have returned with more detail. The next advance would be evidence that lets us recognise what was passing overhead.

Questions About Black Triangle UFOs

What Is a Black Triangle UFO?

A black triangle UFO is a reported dark triangular shape or arrangement of lights that the observer could not identify. The label describes an appearance and does not establish a particular aircraft or origin.

What New FBI Triangle Files Were Released in 2026?

The 7 August 2026 release included interview records D024, D026, D028 and D030, paired with illustrations D025, D027, D029 and D031. The accounts concern encounters in 2002, 2011 and October 2023.

Are the FBI Triangle Pictures Real Photographs?

The pictures accompanying these four accounts are official witness-based illustrations. D027 is a drawn sequence. They are not photographs or video frames captured during those triangle encounters.

Is There a Real FBI Triangle UFO Video?

FBI-UAP-PR001, labelled Triangle Orbs, is a real recording hosted by DVIDS. It concerns a separate November 2021 event and was posted on 12 June 2026. It does not record the four illustrated encounters discussed here.

Are Black Triangle UFOs Silent?

Some witnesses described silence, including the Bagram and Colorado accounts. The witnesses in the 2011 file described a low pulsing hum. Silence is not a feature shared by every report.

Did the FBI Identify the Triangles as Alien Craft?

The released interview forms record witness statements and do not supply an FBI conclusion identifying the triangles as alien craft. Establishing an origin would require evidence beyond the reported appearance.

Is the Black Triangle UFO Real?

The government has released interview records and illustrations of reported triangles. Those records establish what witnesses told the FBI. Identifying the objects themselves requires evidence beyond the descriptions and reconstructed images.
